Biography

Kelly Rappleye is an independent curator, arts writer, and researcher originally based out of Los Angeles, California, and currently practicing and living in Glasgow, UK. While completing her MA in Contemporary Art Theory with Goldsmiths, University of London, Kelly developed curatorial research on the intersections of urban and digital spatiality, care, and the archive. Her professional background as a youth mental health worker informs a critical analysis of care, pathology and dispossession in urban life. Kelly's arts writing ranges from creative fiction to curatorial essays, and she is currently co-authoring a serial column titled "Provenance" on LA's untold contemporary art history for Artillery Magazine (Los Angeles based), where she is also Director of Digital Development. Her current curatorial interests are focused on supporting collective artistic practices which shape alternative publics, networked care, and creating spaces of social refuge around (an)archives. She is open to collaborations and encourages getting in touch with any inquiries, research explorations, or chats!

Speculative Curating of the Online Borough Road Collection Archive (UPCOMING WORKSHOP)
UPCOMING WORKSHOP with The Borough Road Collection Archive, a platform for experimentation, creative annotation and unexpected encounters with an online collection. We are inviting participants to reflect collectively as online curators and fortune tellers, with and through the online collection. Collaborators will interpret the online artwork in response to embodied looking questions and speculative fiction prompts. We will consider where these digital objects might travel or live. During the session participants will also reflect on the type of online community we are seeking to build, helping to shape the terms and conditions of the platform. Collaborators will work with an online wiki based platform to curate and interpret online artworks from the Borough Road Collection Archive. Spots in the online workshop are still available for Wednesday, June 16th! (5pm-6:30BST)
